Dr Jignesh Patel is Clinical Professor of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Smidt Heart Institute and is Medical Director of the Heart Transplant Program, Director of the Cardiac Amyloid Program, and Director of Heart Transplant Research. Dr Patel earned his bachelor’s degree with honors at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom (UK), and received his medical degree from that institution. Dr Patel performed an internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, and subsequently completed training in cardiovascular diseases in conjunction with his doctorate in the Subspecialty
Training and Advanced Research (STAR) Program at UCLA, where he also served as Clinical Instructor and Chief Cardiology Fellow. Dr Patel’s areas of
clinical and research interest focus on the management of patients with advanced heart failure including cardiac amyloidosis and following cardiac
transplantation. Dr Patel has been the Principal or Co-Investigator for more than 35 research projects, which include multicenter trials in congestive heart
failure and cardiac amyloidosis, clinical trials of immunosuppressive agents and non-invasive technologies for the detection of rejection. His research into
these and other areas has resulted in more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed publications, several books chapters, and more than 500 abstracts. He also
has lectured extensively on heart failure, cardiac amyloidosis and transplant immunology.
Dr Patel serves on the Leadership Advisory Forum and is past-Chair of the Heart Failure and Transplantation Council of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation. He serves on the Heart Failure and Transplantation Leadership Council at the American College of Cardiology. He is Associate Editor of American Journal of Transplantation and Current Transplantation Reports. He is a Fellow of the
American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, American Society of Transplantation, and the Royal College of Physicians (UK). He is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Disease and Transplantation.
